My pregnancy beauty faves

Not long after I fell pregnant, I noticed instant (and negative) changes to my skin and hair. “It’s completely normal” people told me, which didn’t necessarily make it okay when one spends a lot of time (& money!) on looking after their skin.

My skin became sensitive, noticed by a burning sensation feeling from a variety of beauty products I’d been using for a long time – cleansers, scrubs, masks and creams. Not long after receiving a “plus sign” on a pregnancy test my skin became dull, prone to breakouts and from the start it’s a constant battle against tiredness, sickness and a lack of energy – which inevitably becomes apparent in our skin (well for some of us it does…).

The books, apps and websites all promise us the all over “glow” as well as thick and glossy hair – but that promise doesn’t always deliver.

I wasn’t *too* strict about beauty products and their ingredients in pregnancy and I didn’t ditch everything I used/owned – I didn’t want to drastically switch to 100% organic/natural/parafen-free/fragrance-free products, but I did try a few new products which I genuinely fell in love with, and here I want to share with you some of my favourites which I’ll definitely use again next time (if there is a next time). Some I’m continuing to use now even without being pregnant.

Spring beauty, all things pink and styling attempts!

Did anyone see the sun lately!? The warmish spring sunshine? I’ve been waiting for the sun to shine and for spring to fully present itself before I did this beauty (spring-related) post. I don’t want to wait any longer so here we go (but if you see the sun, have a word!)…

This post has an honest objective! I’m all about the transparency of personalities. I’ve wanted to start practising my photography and styling more for my blog (note to self to start saving for a decent camera – the iPhone just doesn’t cut it…) and as I had some tulips in the house and some new pretty beauty products to play with I saw an opportunity for a play around! My spare bedroom at home is all white – white walls and a white IKEA furniture (the Malm range which I’m sure we have ALL owned at some point in life!), and so, my spare bedroom has aptly become my home studio!!

The beauty know it all… (beauty vloggers watch out!)

The world of “vlogging” has gone a little mad in recent times. As a gal who’s worked in magazines, marketing, PR and all things media for many years now, it completely baffles me when I come across successful and popular vlogs, from those who have no qualifications, credentials, skills or experience in the fields they perceive to know and understand – with the beauty subject being the main culprit. (Unless, like me, you blog for a hobby or for some sort of life distraction and/or therapy – and therefore, not pretending to be something you’re not…)

The concept of vlogging is brilliant…but I just can’t seem to get on with many vloggers out there when it comes to beauty. As a 30 year old (alright…31), I find it very difficult to learn of new beauty tips and advice from a 20-something marketable lass, with no beauty qualifications or credentials – I just can’t relate to them or trust their content. (Especially when most of their posts are biased from being paid by brands or breaking the laws of the Bribery Act!). Good luck to them all, but I am just not their target viewer.

I may have originally qualified as beauty therapist before I moved in to the world of marketing, PR and lifestyle/celebrity/glossy magazines (when I was 17 wanted to be a makeup artist), so I do have an understanding of a basic skin care regime, and certain beauty dos and don’ts, but I like to still get my fix of up-to-date advice, trends, and learn of new products and tips – especially as I age (*sob*) which means implementing the occasional tweak to my beauty routines. I am NEVER one to ever look at myself and say “I’m pretty”, so for me, I want advice from someone who I can trust…
