Mothercare press day Spring/Summer 2018 and my interview with Myleene Klass

Before the Christmas rush, I was invited along to the Mothercare press day, where the brand was showcasing their new collections for spring/summer 2018.

There’s lots to look forward for Mothercare’s new season, which is starting to appear in stores and online already. Spring is on the horizon YES! There are some great collaborations with Usborne Books,  as well as ongoing collections with Myleene Klass, Jools Oliver and Julian Macdonald.

I was lucky enough to chat to Myleene Klass at the press day, so scroll down to view photos from the event, to see some of my favourite outfits launching and to also read my exclusive chat with Myleene…

I got to interview yummy mummy Myleene Klass at the Mothercare spring/summer 2018 press day

There is so much choice when it comes to changing bags. One of the reasons I went with my Tote Savvy insert is because at the time I was pregnant I couldn’t find a changing bag I liked. An obvious (and patterned or multicoloured) changing bag is just not for me. However, I love the blush pink bag below (great for spring time) and I also think the idea of a rucksack is genius (bottom right) for keeping hands free to push a buggy. This one featured can be found here.

The subject of first shoes seems to be a minefield in itself. Henry is standing and taking a few steps at a time now (after all, he’s not silly – crawling is a FAR quicker way of getting around!) and will be walking in no time I’m sure. It’s important for first shoes to be designed for developing feet and are of good quality, enough for continuous wear, which Mothercare have invested ample time and research in to their shoe designs. View their shoes online here.

In the spring Henry will be a fully fledged toddling toddler and I can’t wait to get him this little denim jacket (£20-22 depending on size). I love the ‘bomber jacket’ effect it has and the elastic wristbands are actually really useful for keeping clothing in place…

The new denim pieces remain premium quality and super soft too. I struggle to find jeans that fit Henry well, but I’ve never gone wrong with my Mothercare purchases…

I have to confess, and I don’t know why, but I didn’t try and test Mothercare’s own range of pushchairs when I was first pram shopping. I honestly think you’re so overwhelmed with “brands”, what celebrities are using (or perhaps “gifted”!) and there’s so much variety, that for me this genuinely slipped off my radar. I had a chance to look at the Mothercare Journey pushchair (here in grey) and I am really impressed.

The pushchair is compact, VERY important for me where I live as I’m surrounded by boutique shops (with narrow doors and aisles) and cafes. The fabrics are incredibly soft…

A close up of the Journey pushchair…

The large basket underneath is ample, not many prams offer this amount of storage. It’s very easy to access too – some storage baskets are fiddly to get items in and out of if there isn’t much of a gap between it and the seat/carrycot…

With the current cold snap I just wanted to get inside the cosy cushioning. I also really like the chrome edging, it makes it look really smart.

I’ve always liked the look of the clothing from Jools Oliver, called Little Bird, but this was the first opportunity I’ve had to look up close. Very bright, very colourful, optimising the full spectrum of a rainbow, this is certainly the range to look out for if you enjoy embracing a colourful wardrobe for your little ones…

I love this onesie  – a gold star print all-in-one from the Smile by Julien Macdonald collection. You can always rely on a little bit of sparkle and shimmer from the Smile ranges.

Printed leggings and joggers seem to be a continuing trend. I’m definitely going to be getting the green dinosaur leggings on the left…

One of the highlights from the event was the Usborne Books collaboration. A selection of “That’s not my ….” outfits with touchy feel features, just like in the corresponding books. This is such a fun brand partnership idea, I love it!

The Heritage collection by Mothercare was a highlight from the entire showcase. Very much for the traditional dresser, the nautical themes are naturally well suited for summer and this outfit below is something I’m look forward to dressing Henry in when the season is upon us.

Mothercare’s Little Explorer range features many casual pieces perfect for a day to day. I like the idea of pairing a bright coloured pair of shorts with this “Cheeky Monkey” tee

Grey mixed with hints of tones of primary colours complete this range nicely and the subtle Superhero hints throughout are great fun too.

For the mothers of daughters out there – who does not love a pom pom! A trend that will continue for as long as we’ll allow it… does this top come in my size?!

When I was pregnant with Henry I really struggled with maternity bras. I had to ditch my underwire bras very early in to pregnancy and many retailers sell UGLY options. I absolutely fell in love with the maternity bra range on display from Blooming Marvellous. They are so soft, supportive without needing the under wire and as well as practical t-shirt bras I loved the prettier versions on offer…

Who knew maternity bras could be this pretty!!

Last but certainly far from least, on to My K by Myleene Klass and my quick chat with the yummy mummy herself. I instantly noticed the neutral palette throughout – from the nursery accessories to clothing…

You’ll spot the occasional yet appropriate slogan here and there!

In my view, a very cool, current and chic range for SS18…

Here I am! A subtle smiley-faced slogan on a dungarees set offering touches of some feminine detail – such as rouching and a cute frill on the shoulders. This outfit has no fiddly fastenings and would be comfortable for any little person to wear.

What I love about the dungarees in Myleene’s range is the softness and elasticity – very comfortable and practical for babies and toddling toddlers too…

I was lucky enough to have a quick chat with Myleene who was there promoting her My K collection…

“You know best!” Myleene firmly stated when I asked what her one piece of advice was when it comes to adjusting to first-time motherhood.

“Don’t listen to anyone else, follow your own instinct and pay little attention to other opinions and what those around you say to do.”

“I get very irate when strangers approach me to tell me why they think my kid is crying! It’s none of their business. Seriously, who are other people to judge?! You, the parent, know best!”

I explained to Myleene that on my blog and Instagram over recent months I have been championing all things Mumpreneur, working mums (whether that’s self employed or as an employee) and all things flexible working…

“I got my kids ready this morning and took them to school before I came to this morning’s event. I don’t want to miss out on certain aspects of motherhood, including the school run. What I do allows for flexible working, but I insist to work around the hours that suit me and my children’s schedules.”

Myleene continues, “I feel it’s very important as a working parent, to find enough work/life balance where possible. I live in London, which helps as it’s often where I’m working and therefore I’m not too far away from home.”

I asked her about her new My K collection with Mothercare for Spring/Summer 2018 – what inspires the range and I was especially intrigued by the colours (or lack of)…

“Personally, I don’t dress my kids in too many bright colours at once. I’ve always favoured a more chic, subtle and often neutral colour palette which I choose to influence throughout my home and clothing ranges with Mothercare. I don’t mind colour, but I can’t stand seeing children dressed like clowns!”

Myleene’s 22nd collection for Mothercare (WOW!) is available from 0-8 years old and features a fantastic array of monochrome with the occasional soft pink and aqua shining through.

When I asked to take a photo of her, she sweetly insisted I was in the shot too. And when I sheepishly highlighted my dark circles and untamed hair, she boldly phrased, “I’m not having a photo without you in it, you are a gorgeous mummy!” Whether she was telling the truth or not, this made my day!

Thank you Mothercare for inviting me to view the new launches for next year. I’m excited to see them all in store and to purchase a few items for Henry’s spring and summer wardrobe.

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed a sneak peak in to what Mothercare are offering next year. I could also get used to interviewing the occasional celebrity too! 🙂
